Nov 4, 2016 12:32:48 AM / by Işıl Tanyeri

Shawna Buchanan is  from  Licking, MO. She describes herself as "quirky", "fun" and a "loving person."Her passion in life is to spread her message against drinking and driving, always holding her smile on her face.

"I was in an accident involving alcohol. In my case, I was the drunk driver.I did this to myself, so I travel around the state now speaking to high school and college students."

Shawna is unique because "she's not afraid to share my story and want to help as many as possible."

Shawna's Adapt.Believe.Compete. story

"Adapt. When you go through such a dramatic life altering event you have to come to grips with reality and adapt to your new life. Everything is different now and it will never be the same.
Believe. You must believe in yourself and your new lifestyle. It will be ok, life may be different but you still have your life.
Compete.  In life you will always compete. But you will complete within yourself. You must compete for self worth, compete for your blessings and compete for your future.

I were to be granted this scholarship it would be used toward the purchase of a handicapped wheelchair van.  It has become harder and harder to schedule my speeches with the lack of a reliable handicap van.  It would change my world, I could spread the word to more and more young people.  This is my life’s mission and would change my entire life in many, many ways. The more people I can reach the better. "
