The Navigator Experience

Resuming life after a spinal cord injury isn't easy and every person is different. Questions arise around activities of daily life such as nutrition, sports competition, sexual function, transportation, or bowel and bladder management. Knowledgeable help is invaluable.

ABC Medical's Navigator program is designed to offer individualized support for a person’s road back from spinal cord injury, both through Peer Support Team members and Navigators. Our Peer Support Team is comprised of trained individuals who themselves have spinal cord injuries and therefore can offer support and practical help gained from their own lived experience, as well as inspiring stories that foster genuine hope.  One-on-one assistance is also provided by trained Navigators who are motivated by helping people with an SCI live successfully on their terms.

Meet Jill, MPA - Program Manager
Q&A with Jill:
What drew you to Navigator? I think the world needs more safety nets and ways to support people as they go through difficult times. Navigator for me is about building connections and empowering people. I never want people to feel alone.

What are some of your favorite activities? I love drinking coffee, moving (whether it be bowling or running), going to farmers markets, creating, laughing, dancing, and being with people.

One piece of advice you’ll never forget: "There are no good or bad decisions, just all decisions have consequences."

When things get tough, I…Sing, a lot. Something about singing is endlessly freeing for me. I imagine that’s how dogs feel after they shake their bodies.

Meet Lacey, LPN - Navigator
Q&A with Lacey:
What drew you to Navigator? I was drawn to navigator because of my love for both talking and helping people. The Navigator role has allowed me to combine my knowledge of the medical landscape as well as my nursing background to make an impact in our customers' lives.

What are some of your favorite activities?  My favorite activities are any activities that we do as a family. From boating on a beautiful day to taking evening golf cart rides.

One piece of advice you’ll never forget: "Always look at life with the glass half full."

When things get tough, I…tend to make jokes. Laughter is calming and tension relieving and can be contagious. It makes me feel good to make other people laugh and smile.
