It is a pleasure to announce that Jessica has been selected to receive the ABC summer camp scholarship to attend the University of Alabama wheelchair basketball camp. We are sharing Jessica's essay, as it reflects pure passion and commitment, which is what the mission of this scholarship is. "My name is Jessica Lannom. I am seventeen-year-old and finishing up my sophomore year in highschool. I live in Lebanon, Tennessee and play for Atlanta Jr. Hawks. I’ve been playing for almost four years now and have loved every second of it. I used to play for the Tennessee team, but unfortunately, we did not have enough committed players. I am so passionate about this sport it has opened my eyes to so many opportunities. I drive four hours to practice every Saturday. It is tough on my parents, but they see how much this sport means to me and are willing to do whatever it takes to help me fulfil my passion. Wheelchair basketball has taught me so much from how to set up a good defense to offense, on how to become a team player, leadership skills when needed, and there is so much more to learn. I’ve met so many amazing people and coaches to help me better myself in my journey of basketball. With that said, I would like to attend the University of Alabama camp. I have heard great things about the camp and how it improves players. Since I do drive so far during the season it is hard for me to pay for camps during the summer, I’ve heard that your camp will greatly improve me and my skills. I would love the opportunity to attend your camp and be chosen for a scholarship would be a huge help to me and my family. I have met so many amazing people and coaches in my journey of basketball and would love to see what Alabama camp has to offer. I honestly can’t imagine my life without playing this amazing sport.
